The Stage Metronom Theater at CentrO in Oberhausen presents a show full of maritime magic with an amazingly real cruise ship and 21 songs by Udo Jürgens, one of the most prolific and successful German-language artists. ICH WAR NOCH NIEMALS IN NEW YORK will put the sun in your heart and a smile on your face.
A majestic ocean liner sets sail at the Stage Metronom Theater seven times every week, carrying with it grand dreams, deep longings and the search for fulfilment in life. ICH WAR NOCH NIEMALS IN NEW YORK tells the light-hearted, romantic story of successful but stressed-out TV presenter Lisa Wartberg who is neglecting her mother. Out of the blue, her mother decides to marry the love of her life under the Statue of Liberty in New York. Unbeknown to their families, both women board a cruise ship. In her attempts to dissuade her mother from rashly going ahead, Lisa finds herself on a rollercoaster of emotions with surprising twists and turns. A tempestuous tale of confusion and self-discovery unfolds on the high seas.
At every performance, the spectacular backdrop, dazzling costumes and breathtaking special effects transport around 1,800 audience members to another world. Twenty-one songs by singer/entertainer Udo Jürgens – including hits like 'Aber bitte mit Sahne', 'Mit 66 Jahren', 'Vielen Dank für die Blumen' and 'Ich war noch niemals in New York' – create a rousing, singalong atmosphere. It's a wonderfully uplifting blend of humour, depth and entertainment. All aboard!
