The Ilm Valley Cycle Route, a 4-star ADFC quality-certified route, takes cyclists on a tour of Weimar, German cultural history and Thuringian cuisine. No wonder it's one of the most popular routes Germany has to offer!

Starting in the Thuringian Forest, the first section of the route is a nice downhill stretch. Almost all of the small towns along the way are worth a visit. Goethe House in Stützerbach and the mustard mill in Kleinhettstedt are just two examples of lovely places to stop for a break from cycling. Once the cycle path reaches Weimar, a major highlight awaits in the form of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Wieland Estate in Ossmannstedt, the floating holiday cottages in Eberstedt, the vineyards in Bad Sulza and the bell-making town of Apolda are other must-visit attractions along the way. All the Thuringian specialities such as sausages, wine and beer at every turn are a major perk of a cycling adventure along this route.
