Spectacular crags, deep valleys and forest as far as the eye can see! That is the essence of the Palatinate Forest Trail.
Take a walk along the Palatinate Forest Trail to experience un-spoilt woodland, the tranquillity of nature and sweeping views across the largest unbroken expanse of forest in Germany. In the extensive woodland paths you can absorb the energy from the peacefulness and beauty of undisturbed countryside. The Sustainability House at Johanniskreuz presents everything you need to know about the fascinating subject of 'man and nature'. A staggering view from Luitpold tower at the top of Weißenberg hill will certainly leave an impression; on a fine day you can see more than 300 peaks. If your walking shoes have given up the ghost, you won't have to look far to find a new pair in the shoe-shopping paradise of Hauenstein. The Dahner Felsenland leads past bizarre rock formations through a wild and romantic landscape to the Drachenfels ruins, with their staircases carved into the rock , and the Berwartstein Castle - the epitome of romantic castles. The trail ends at the German Wine Gate in Schweigen.
Tip: Berwartstein Castle, Erlenbach
The only remaining inhabited castle in the Palatinate region. The castle is open all year round and offers a restaurant, accommodation, tours, medieval banquets and various events.
