Germany popular with travellers

Figures from 2011 emphatically confirmed that Germany is one of the most popular travel destinations in Europe. From the coastlines in the north to the Alps in the south, the country is the most popular travel destination among the Germans themselves with 330.3 million overnight stays recorded last year. What's more, Germany is also the second most popular travel destination for Europeans. Positive trends in the markets of China, India and Brazil played a significant part in achieving the 63.8 million overnight stays recorded by international visitors in 2011. In 2012, the German National Tourist Board is continuing to promote Germany around the world with a special focus on the themes 'wine heritage and nature' and 'business travel'.
