Art with a cult following at the Ludwig Museum in Cologne

The Ludwig Museum is one of Europe's most important art museums, with a focus on artwork from the 20th and 21st centuries. The building in the shadows of the world-famous Cologne Cathedral is a stunning work of architectural art in its own right.

The Ludwig Museum is the perfect destination for anyone with a keen interest in art from the 20th and 21st centuries. It is home to the most extensive collection of Pop Art in Europe, the third largest Picasso collection in the world, one of the most significant collections of German Expressionism, outstanding Russian Avant-Garde masterpieces and an excellent collection looking at the history of photography. Where else can visitors admire Pop Art perfection by Roy Lichtenstein alongside Picasso's graphic works?

The collection of some 70,000 photographs from the start of the 19th century to the present day is nothing short of impressive and it is even presented in a separate room. Contemporary art is another focus of the Ludwig Museum, which keeps adding to its holdings with more acquisitions. More extensive exhibitions and regular special displays make the museum all the more attractive. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am–6 pm, the first Thursday of every month: 10 am–10 pm
