Can – boundless musical adventures

Back in the early 1970s, Can were seen as Europe's most progressive rock band, at least by British critics, and their influence is still strong in experimental rock today.

Can came together in Cologne in 1968 and were never bound by commercial considerations. Instead of self-contained rock songs, they preferred to explore the possibilities of protracted, psychedelic improvisations. Even their first album Monster Movie revealed clear influences from contemporary music and free jazz. Today the long-serving Can members Holger Czukay, Irmin Schmidt and Jaki Liebezeit are regarded as timeless authorities on an unblinkered experiment in sound and rhythm.
