Neuschwanstein Castle €2 coin

Neuschwanstein Castle has been chosen to represent the federal state of Bavaria on the new German €2 commemorative coin for 2012. Thirty million of these coins will go into circulation in Europe and, as mementos of one of Germany's most popular tourist sights, are certain to be popular collectibles.

Visitor attractions from other federal states have been used as motifs for commemorative coins since 2006: Holsten Gate in Lübeck, Schwerin Castle, St. Michael's Church in Hamburg, Ludwigskirche church in Saarbrücken, the Roland statue and town hall in Bremen and, most recently in 2011, Cologne Cathedral.
