Sprengel Museum Hanover

The Sprengel Museum is home to a comprehensive collection that makes it one of the most prominent museums for art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection of Margrit and Bernhard Sprengel is the museum's centrepiece.

Since the married couple specialised in German Expressionism and French Modernism, those are the main focal points of the museum to this day. The Sprengel Collection at the Sprengel Museum in Hanover has been boosted with 20th-century art inspired by urban and countryside settings that used to be held at the Lower Saxony State Museum and what used to be the Kestner Museum. This amalgamation of artwork has helped Hanover's Sprengel Museum become one of the major centres for modern art.

Over the past 20 years, the collection has grown even further, welcoming work by the likes of Schwitters and Saint Phalle. This vibrant forum for art and science also hosts around 25 temporary exhibitions a year alongside its impressive permanent display. And there are lectures, discussions and events for kids and families on top of that. All in all, visitors are provided with a wide overview of the evolution of art from the modern to the contemporary. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays: 10 am–6 pm_x000D
