Centre for high-precision radiotherapy
At the heart of the Radio-Oncological Department is a high-precision radiotherapy system that is available in only a handful of clinics in Germany. This pinpoint-precision machine represents the optimum solution for destroying the actual tumour whilst protecting as much of the surrounding tissue as possible. It even compensates for the tiniest of movements made by the patient during the treatment.
Stereotactic radio surgery (single high-dose radiotherapy) originates from the field of neurosurgery and is now carried out by radiotherapists and neurosurgeons on an interdisciplinary basis. If necessary, the treatment can also be administered in several sessions (=fractionated) with the same precision. Every year more than 250 treatments employing this technique are performed in Bonn.
The many state-of-the-art radiotherapy machines available include a modern brachytherapy machine that implants radiation sources into the body and directly at or into the tumour. This innovative medical equipment and the highly specialised and experienced team who operate it have made the MediClin Robert Janker Clinic one of the leading radiotherapy clinics in Germany.
Holistic concept through interdisciplinary cooperation
The Department for Radiology and Neuroradiology carries out any required diagnostic tests such as MRI scans, CT scans and angiograms. Other in-house specialists, including haemato-oncologists, neuro-oncologists, palliative doctors, pain therapists and neurosurgeons work closely together to determine and implement the best course of treatment. Thanks to the clinic’s focus on tumours of the brain and spinal cord, there is a strong core of interdisciplinary cooperation between brain surgeons and neuroradiologists and between neuro-oncologists and radio-oncologists in the treatment of benign and malignant brain tumours. Particular worthy of mention are the clinic’s close ties with Bonn University Hospital and its departments for neurosurgery and neuro-oncology
Besides innovative medical techniques, the clinic also offers individual consultations and a high level of service for patients and their relatives. Our specialist clinic is able to offer patients and their relatives one-bed and twin-bed rooms. The latter allow one member of the family to stay with the patient overnight. The holistic and individually customised treatment is carried out by a team of professionals from various disciplines including not only doctors and nurses but also other specialists such as physiotherapists, psycho-oncologists, counsellors, social workers and volunteers.
