Stuttgart International Cartoon Festival – Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) is one of the world's biggest and most important festivals of animated film. Every May up to 1,000 cartoons from all over the world are screened in Stuttgart, revealing an exciting glimpse of the depth and breadth of the genre. This is a global industry event with a relaxed atmosphere in attractive surroundings.
The promotion of young talent is a cornerstone of the ITFS, giving the festival something of a university campus vibe. Many film schools and art colleges enter cartoons in the Young Animation competition, which forms the core of the festival alongside the international competition. Other categories and competitions include Tricks For Kids, Cartoons for Teens and the prestigious AniMovie feature-length competition, which always attracts distinguished entries. Advertising, spatial communication and technology are covered too, and the Animated Fashion Award is a well-regarded career stepping stone. Stuttgart's venues are perfect for this high-calibre cultural event. The modern Gloria and Metropol cinemas in the city centre have been used since 2006 in parallel with the open-air cinema on magnificent Schlossplatz square. There are also screenings at Ludwigsburg Palace, a nearby historical gem.
