Hills and valleys, pretty medieval villages, quaint Black Forest farmsteads and traditional breweries: discover the best of the Black Forest on the Nature Park Cycle Route.
The Nature Park Cycle Route takes you on a round tour of the North and Central Black Forest Nature Park. Starting out in Freudenstadt, it weaves its way through the Kinzig valley to Offenburg through a scenic landscape of orchards and vineyards. It's always worth stopping off at castles and palaces along the way, such as Schloss Ortenberg, or exploring quiet valleys. A visit to the famous spa town of Baden-Baden is also a must. Continuing through sparse deciduous forests to the Alb valley, you reach the former border between Baden and Württemberg. Other highlights include the Sommerberg funicular railway in Bad Wildbad, which takes you up to the peaks of the Black Forest, and the four moorland lakes around Kaltenbronn – Grosser Wildsee, Kleiner Wildsee, Hornsee and Hohlohsee. A fantastic landscape that will take your breath away.
Terrain: The route runs mainly on surfaced, traffic-free paths, some of which are gravel. It is possible to cycle the route in both directions; Freudenstadt is the recommended starting point.
Scenery: The route crosses the Black Forest from east to west through orchards, vineyards, valleys and wetlands.
