Chocolate Museum Cologne

How is chocolate made? Who invented it? Where does cocoa come from? The Chocolate Museum has the answers to all these questions and more in its exhibition featuring 2,000 items. Plus, there's plenty of chance to give some chocolate a try!

The Chocolate Museum in Cologne takes visitors on a journey through the 3,000 years of cultural history behind chocolate, starting at a large model of a cocoa tree. Visitors then pass through the 10-metre-high tropical greenhouse, following the journey of cocoa from its harvest, through the major stock exchanges of the world markets, until it ends up in the chocolate factory. The different species of cocoa plant are also presented and visitors are even treated to the incredible opportunity to watch chocolate being made at the top of the museum.

On two different floors, visitors can see how chocolate bars, truffles and hollow chocolate figures are made. Warm melted chocolate even flows from a three-metre-tall chocolate fountain standing in the foyer. It's impossible to resist dunking in a Belgian waffle. This museum is by no means all talk – there is plenty of chance to taste the chocolate too. And visitors can even book onto praline and chocolate courses to learn how to make their own. Opening times: Every day: 10 am–6 pm. The museum is closed on Mondays from January to March and in November.
