When the Berlin Wall came down 25 years ago, Rügen became the largest of the unified Germany ’s 51 islands. Its most famous landmarks are its chalk cliffs, which rise up steeply from the horizon. The island is also famed for the classical architecture of its luxurious coastal resorts and the sandy beaches that stretch for miles and miles. All these island treasures boast their own distinctive charm. Putbus, the oldest seaside resort on Rügen, is an embodiment of classical architecture and an enchanting destination.
