Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg

Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg is home to the largest model railway in the world. Beyond the walls of Hamburg's Speicherstadt district, the doorway to a whole wide world in miniature is open all year round.

Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg's Speicherstadt district is a must-see attraction for all rail enthusiasts, globetrotters, families and anyone else visiting Hamburg! Over 1,000 trains with more than 10,000 carriages and 130,000 trees, 263,000 figures, 9,250 cars, 15,400 metres of track, 4,340 buildings and bridges were lovingly set up by more than 300 employees who worked meticulously in miniature for more than 795,000 hours altogether. This ultimate model landscape is the setting for realistic train journeys that are fully controlled by computers. The model even sees day change to night and vice versa – every 15 minutes. Miniature versions of Hamburg's HafenCity and Elbphilharmonie concert hall were recently added to Miniatur Wunderland.

Almost half a million lights give the whole scene a realistic feel and create a truly special atmosphere. And the technology at the heart of the model railway is nothing short of impressive: It takes 60 computers to control the trains! Every year, well-known model train manufacturers join forces with Miniatur Wunderland to produce special trains featuring Wunderland designs for the H0, N and Z scales. One-off batches of these models are created to be sold as limited editions. Opening times: Every day: 9.30 am–6 pm
