This park spanning 45 hectares truly lives up to its name. Borders and beds full of plants and flowers are a delight to behold and the peaceful atmosphere invites visitors to stop and stare for a while. And the best part is that entry is free.

Centrally located, the park is home to a number of themed gardens, including Hamburg's Old Botanical Garden and one of the largest Japanese landscape gardens in Europe. A listed tropical house complex can be found right at the heart of the park along with the display greenhouses of the Old Botanical Garden. Another sensational feature inspiring calm and tranquillity is the traditional rose garden. The beds are boxed in with Buxus hedging, providing the perfect setting for the classical music that can be heard every day during the summer season.

In the Apothecary Garden, you can learn all about medicinal plants. Stressed locals from the city flock here to sit around the edges of the water fountains and absorb the atmosphere during the water and light concerts. The outdoor skating rink is one of the largest in the world and it attracts plenty of roller skaters and bladers during the summer months. The Museum of Hamburg History is located at the south-west end of Planten un Blomen Park. The exhibitions there tell the story of the Hanseatic city, starting from its origins around the year 800 and ending with the modern day.
