Three, two, one – go! Flags wave, lights blaze, helmets twinkle… the locomotive world championship is under way. The STARLIGHT EXPRESS Theatre in Bochum ramps up the speed and excitement as Rusty the steam engine, Greaseball the diesel Elvis and the train of the future Electra battle it out.
Once the engines and trucks slip into a child's dreamland and become human, it's time for the most amazing train race in the history of the world. Rusty the young steam engine, loveable but past his prime, seems to stand no chance against Greaseball the diesel Elvis lookalike and Electra the flashy new train on the rails. Defeat seems a certainty for Rusty when he loses the support of Papa the old steam engine, but suddenly the legendary STARLIGHT EXPRESS appears in the starry sky and Rusty realises that self-belief is all that matters. Bring on the finale…
STARLIGHT EXPRESS is the world's most successful musical, and now Andrew Lloyd Webber has brought the planet's most thrilling train contest – his vision of speed, technology, steel and rails – to the STARLIGHT EXPRESS Theatre in Bochum. At every show, 26 performers race past some 1,700 audience members at over 60 kilometres an hour. What's really exciting is that, in this specially constructed theatre, the audience is right at the heart of the action, just millimetres from glittering costumes, amazing masks and stars swooshing past. Emotional fireworks come thick and fast too with toe-tapping songs and beautiful ballads.
