Hospitals in Germany

In the 2,000 or so hospitals in Germany, the flat organisational hierarchies and intensive collaboration between specialist departments mean that patients receive comprehensive treatment at the cutting edge of research. Many hospitals have also set up additional services for international patients.
Vivantes
Vivantes Hospital Network

As Germany's largest municipal hospital group, Vivantes is at the forefront of an industry undergoing great change. The Vivantes Hospital Network includes nine hospitals, twelve care homes, two retirement homes, an outpatient rehabilitation clinic and medical care centres. Every year, one third of all people requiring medical treatment in Berlin receive this at one of over 100 facilities and institutes belonging to the Vivantes Group.

Augusta Hospital in Düsseldorf
Centre for Cardiovascular Surgery at Augusta Hospital in the Düsseldorf Catholic Hospital Group (VKKD)

The Cardiovascular Centre at Düsseldorf's Augusta Hospital combines all the specialist units for the comprehensive treatment of cardiovascular disease. In addition to cardiovascular surgery, this includes interventional radiology (imaging with minimally invasive procedures) and endovascular surgery (procedures inside the blood vessels). Because it is possible to treat patients with catheters and stents, the need for more serious operations can in many cases be averted.

Heidelberg University Hospital
Heidelberg University Hospital

Heidelberg University Hospital is one of the largest and most distinguished medical centres in Germany. The Faculty of Medicine is among the most internationally renowned biomedical research establishments in Europe. The common goal is the development of new treatments and their quick implementation for the benefit of patients. The hospital and faculty employ around 11,000 people and are actively involved in training and qualification.

Hamburg-Eppendorf University Medical Centre
University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf

University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) is grouped into 14 centres comprising more than 80 departments, clinics and institutes that cooperate on an interdisciplinary basis. It admits around 80,000 inpatients per year and treats some 263,000 outpatients and about 113,000 emergency cases. In the Hamburg region, many operations such as heart, lung, liver, kidney and bone marrow transplants can only be performed here.
