The Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route passes through the Mecklenburg Lake District, which is home to over a thousand lakes, and stretches all the way to the coast. Lake Müritz, Germany's largest lake, is the star of the show on this route.

Starting off in Lüneburg, the route takes cyclists through the Elbe Valley Nature Park and on to Bleckede, where they cross the River Elbe by ferry. Just on from Neustadt-Glewe, the trail continues through riverside landscapes complete with meadows, ponds and forests. Then it's on to Lübz, Lake Plau and Lake Müritz. Passing through the lake district and Müritz National Park, cyclists may be lucky enough to spot cranes, ospreys and white-tailed eagles. The route continues through Neustrelitz and Neubrandenburg, before heading for the Szczecin Lagoon and then the island of Usedom. This is where the long-distance cycle route ends, with a magnificent view across the Baltic Sea and of lovely Classicist seaside architecture.
