The Hurricane Festival,

which has been held in Scheessel in Lower Saxony every year since 1997, really does feel like a hurricane sweeping across the stages. Around 100 bands combine to create a rock spectacular in a class of its own. Since 1999 it has been held in parallel with Southside, the sister festival with the same line-up in the south of the region. Together these two festivals attract over 100,000 spectators. Many come from abroad, mostly from the Netherlands, the UK and Scandinavia.

The bands that make the Hurricane one of the biggest music festivals in Germany lie along a broad spectrum covering rock, alternative, metal, indie and electronic. A great safety record and seamless organisation make everything that bit sweeter, and camping out is simple and cheap, whether you bring a camper van, motorhome or caravan. There's more than enough space after all: the Eichenring motorbike racetrack in Scheessel is not only big enough but it's also easy to reach thanks to its location between Bremen and Hamburg.
Since 2003 the Hurricane Festival has been held on three days – Friday to Sunday – in the second half of June with a line-up of international bands, popular German acts and always a fresh crop of newcomers. The now cult Uncle Emma shop on site sells all festival necessities, anything and everything from non-alcoholic drinks to toothbrushes, at low prices. They also have cold beers in the chiller.
