Hessenpark Open-Air Museum Neu-Anspach

With plenty of historical buildings and displays showing the work of craftsmen, housewives and farmers in days gone by, the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum brings 400 years of history to life for the whole family.

At the Hessenpark Open-Air Museum in the state of Hesse, visitors are treated to a fascinating, all-encompassing look back at 400 years of local rural history all year round. There are over 100 historical buildings from all over the region within the 65-hectare grounds, giving visitors the chance to see for themselves how people used to live and work. A vibrant overall picture is painted by plenty of demonstrations of craft and farming work, exhibitions, bustling markets, seasonal events, a museum theatre and themed guided tours.

There's even a chance to combine a visit to the museum with a spot of shopping or a bite to eat at the museum's own marketplace. Lovely little boutiques stand beside food and drink vendors, with everything from a bakery, a brush store and a corner shop. Nestled amongst the forests and valleys in the Taunus mountain range in Hesse, the 65-hectare grounds make for an ideal destination for the whole family. Opening times: March to October: Every day 9 am–6 pm, November to February: Saturday and Sunday 10 am–5 pm
