The abundant collection of roses at the Rosarium in Sangerhausen is so much more than just a pretty, poetic garden. It is a living museum and a love story dedicated to the 'queen of flowers'.

Sangerhausen's love of roses dates all the way back to 1896, when its residents started an association with the mission of making their town more beautiful. In 1903, the European Rosarium was born. Visitors can admire a sea of millions of roses across the total area of 13 hectares. The Rosarium features 8,600 different varieties in total, making it the largest collection of roses in the world according to the Guinness Book of World Records. The European Rosarium is a gene bank or a living museum that tracks the evolution of the rose from the wild rose to the modern rose.

During the main flowering season, the entire park is filled with a beguiling scent. The diversity of the roses in Sangerhausen appears to be infinite, with wild roses, English roses, bed roses, hybrid tea roses, shrub roses and climbing roses grouped together in the floral sea, in the old display garden, in the anniversary garden and on the great lawn. The splendid spectacle is at home in a perfectly manicured park, with the queen of the flowers as the star of the show. Sculptures and other interesting works of art take on supporting roles.
