Bayreuth’s Margravial Opera House is considered a masterpiece of 18th century Baroque architecture the sight of which never fails to overwhelm visitors with the magnificence of its gloriously colourful interior. The only entirely preserved example of its type in Europe, the Opera House was designed by renowned theatre architects of the era Giuseppe Galli-Bibiena and his son Carlo. This unrivalled masterpiece of the late Baroque period is still today considered to have marked the pinnacle of their career.During the announcement UNESCO praised the Opera House as being a "unique monument of Baroque court opera in Europe". The Margravial Opera House is the only theatre designed by these renowned architects to have survived in its entirety and is one of a kind, unparalleled anywhere in the world. Even after 250 years the fascination of the Margravial Opera House for visitors from all over the world has diminished not one iota.
