The fine, sandy beaches, excellent water quality, plenty of sunshine and fresh sea breezes are perfect for families. Fashionable seaside resorts and quaint fishing villages, bustling harbours with old fishing boats and elegant cruise ships, the cry of the seagulls and aroma of smoked fish exude a maritime flair. The Lake District
If you are looking for peace and unspoilt nature, you’ll be right at home - or on holiday - here. Refuge and unspoilt nature can be found in the landscapes of the inland regions. Plus, the Mecklenburg Lakes alone unites 1,000 lakes. The rest of the state has just as many again. 26,000 kilometres of rivers and canals connect the Lakes to make Germany’s largest network of waterways. And create a unique paradise for water sports enthusiasts, anglers and swimmers, of course.

Mother Nature
Almost a third of the country is under nature conservation. Hikers and cyclists can access most areas very easily. Many areas belong to the National Natural Landscapes, two even belong to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. They preserve the wild coast with its snow-white chalk cliffs, deep green forests with ancient tree sculptures, wild, romantic moors and reed-fringed lagoons. Observing cranes at rest, eagles at prey or bellowing stags are some of the most impressive experiences Mother Nature has to offer in Germany.

The Culture
The most prominent testifiers to the heyday of the region are the grandiose Gothic brickwork cathedrals in the Hanseatic towns. Stralsund and Wismar are particularly well-preserved and belong to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Sites. Impressive palaces in the cities of residence illustrate the 800-year-old history of the Mecklenburg Grand Dukes. The resort architecture and hundreds of manor houses and parks set their own individual mark within the region. More than 150 art and history museums showcase the rich heritage of the north and its present accomplishments. Traditional theatres and orchestras, prestigious festivals ranging from classical music to electrobeats, maritime folk festivals, fiery historical spectacles and artistic activities with hundreds of players, transform the entire state into a stage.

Social Commitment / Green Travel

Waldaktie („Forest Shares“)
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern introduced forest shares in October 2008. With the symbolic purchase of a tree or, better put, part of a forest, you as an environmentally-conscious holidaymaker could take the chance not only to become a part of the first tourism forest protection program but to make your holiday CO2 neutral.

For the price of a € 10 share, a hardwood tree can be planted and cultivated that will counterbalance a family of four’s carbon dioxide emissions while they enjoy their holiday. Aside from the possibility for you to safeguard the environment by counterbalancing your carbon footprints with the purchase of forest-shares, these shares will also provide an experience in climate protection themselves. The area invested in with the forest-shares will provide numerous people – who will be able to read presentation boards, go on tours, or attend educational events – with the chance to discover the considerable potential that cultivated trees can fulfil to better preserve our climate. Tourists can feel free to participate in this climate protection activity first-hand by planting their very own donated trees at regular tree plantations.
