The world première of THE MIRACLE OF BERN will also be the first show to play in Hamburg's newly built Stage Theater an der Elbe. A boat shuttle takes visitors across the Elbe from the St Pauli Piers to the theatre, unveiling a panoramic view of the Port of Hamburg and the city skyline along the way.
The musical THE MIRACLE OF BERN is a moving father-son story told against the backdrop of the 1954 World Cup: It is the tale of a family that finds itself, a team that excels itself and a small boy with big dreams.
It's the Ruhr area after the war. Nine-year-old Matthias lives in Essen with his older siblings and his mother Christa. His father Richard is still a prisoner of war. Daily life is hard, and for the time-being everyone must fight their own corner in pursuit of their dreams. Matthias is mad about Helmut Rahn, a player on the German national football team, and wishes for nothing more than to accompany his friend and idol to the World Cup. But when his father returns home after ten years, nothing will ever be the same again.
THE MIRACLE OF BERN is a musical about the power of the family, a small boy with big dreams and the moment that would change Germany forever: using spectacular acrobatics, the legendary World Cup final of 1954 is re-enacted on a 128 m2 wall, right up to its climax and the long-awaited cheers of "It's a goal! Germany wins the World Cup!" Bursting with energy, gripping and deeply moving.
