The Nebra Sky Disk is just one of the attractions here. You might be surprised to find that you are in the midst of Germany's northernmost premium wine region, which lends the area a mediterranean feel.
In this amazing natural landscape where 24 varieties of wild orchid grow, you'll come across a plethora of castles, abbeys, palaces and parks. Naumburg Cathedral with its medieval statue of the beautiful Uta von Naumburg is the focal point of a cultural landscape that is on its way to being recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The importance of geology to the reserve can be seen in its name, which means 'Triassic Land'. The landscape owes much of its character to the three rock layers of the Triassic period: red beds, chalk and black shale. Without the red sandstone or white chalkbeds that formed 250-200 million years ago, there would be no castles and palaces, no Naumburg Cathedral, no wine growing and no orchids, because it is the combination of Triassic rocks, weathering and river activity that has made this landscape what it is.
So explore the diversity of the Saale-Unstrut-Triasland Nature Park and Geopark your own way – by bike or from the water, on foot or even from the air.
