Pinakothek der Moderne Munich

The Pinakothek der Moderne is one of the largest galleries in Europe, bringing four museums of art, prints and drawings, architecture and design together under one roof.

The Pinakothek der Moderne is one of three art galleries in Munich's Art Quarter alongside the Alte Pinakothek and the Neue Pinakothek. The museum combines four independent museums: the Collection of Modern Art, the New Collection, the Munich Technical University Architecture Museum and the State Collection of Prints and Drawings. The Collection of Modern Art showcases masterpieces from a range of modern art movements including Expressionism and Minimal Art, whilst the Collection of Prints and Drawings boasts some 400,000 works of art, starting with creations from the 15th century.

The New Collection stands in stark contrast as a design museum presenting major design products and everyday items dating back to the 19th century that have helped shape our modern consumer society. The last of the four museums, the Architecture Museum, is the largest of its kind in the whole of Germany. The items on display include models, drawings and plans by well-known architects such as Günter Behnisch and Le Corbusier. Opening times: Every day except Monday: 10 am–6 pm, Thursday: 10 am–8 pm
