FRA – The intermodal port
FRA is an ideal starting point for trips around Germany and Europe. German Cities can be reached within a short travel time by 170 direct services with the German high-speed railway. Furthermore, FRA provides smooth and hassle-free onward connections to European cities like Paris, Amsterdam or Zurich. The long-distance railway station is directly adjacent to Terminal 1. The AIRail Terminal close to this station facilitates intermodal air-rail-travel and check-in for over 30 airlines. It allows passengers to use the convenient Fly&Rail product offered by German Rail and sold via the airlines and tour operators.
Frankfurt Airport has a regional train station and is just a short ride from the city centre of Frankfurt am Main. Down-town Frankfurt can be reached in around twelve minutes by public transport.
Located at the busiest inter-section in Europe, The “Frankfurter Kreuz”, Frankfurt Airport is also easily accessible by road.

Baggage carts
Baggage carts are located near the check-in counters, baggage claim, Terminal forecourts and parking garages. Users will be required to pay a two euro deposit.

Passengers arriving from non-EU countries can enter Germany without paying duty, but only concerning products for personal use,consumption or as gifts. There are limits on the permitted quantities and values (e.g., alcohol concentrations) and goods exceeding regulated quantities need to be declared at the local customs office.

Arriving in Frankfurt
Travel documents should be checked well in advance to make sure that they are still valid. Passports and IDs must not expire during the visit to Germany. Citizens of a country that has not joined the Schengen Treaty need to find out in time whether they require a visa for Germany.

Therefore, Frankfurt Airport’s new Terminal 3 – with capacity for serving another 14 million passengers per year in the first building phase – is designed to meet the demand for greater mobility and to strengthen FRA’s strategic function as a leading hub in the global aviation system in the future.

Group Offers

Airport Sightseeing Tours & Visitors´ Terrace

  • Visitors go by bus onto the apron where jets take off and land close by and see everything that happens at an airport. An experienced Tour Guide is giving explanations.
  • Mini-Tours (45 minutes) are leaving hourly from Mon-Fri from 1 p.m. to On weekends, bank holidays and during the summer school holidays in the state of Hesse and neighboring states, tours are leaving hourly from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Individuals, families or small groups can purchase tickets in Terminal 1, Departures Level, Area C, daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Advanced registration is not required.
  • A wide range of longer tours (90-180 minutes) are available for groups of at least 25 persons with advanced registration (less people will need to pay a minimal total price.
  • Travel agents/tour operators receive a discount of 10% on tours for groups

The Visitors’ Terrace in Terminal 2 closes for renovation until spring 2015; offers a fascinating view of the apron’s busy activities. Opening times are from April to November from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission to the Visitor’s Terrace is included on the day of the sightseeing tour.

Parking areas for charter buses

Bus pick-up and drop-off areas for travel groups
Coaches and buses may use the charter bus lane at Terminal 1 and 2 to pick-up or drop-off passengers or for loading or unloading luggage.

For long-term parking, please use dedicated P36 bus parking area close to Terminal 1.

Before Traveling
Physically challenged passengers and passengers with reduced mobility who require assistance at the airport are asked to request it in advance:

  • at least 48 hours prior to departure
  • by contacting their airline or travel agent.

This notice prior to departure is needed for the Passenger Support Service.
For security reasons, it is not possible for passengers to directly contact the Passenger Support Service. For further information please contact --> Passenger Assistance.

If you are taking your own wheelchair on your trip, you must report it in advance to the airline and indicate its measurements (height, width and weight).

At the Airport
On the day of your departure, go as usual to your airline’s check-in counters or to one of the Help Points for the Passenger Support Service which can be found throughout the terminals. Porter & Escort Service
Regardless of which airline you use, you can book a porter or an escort service at the airport. The porter service helps you get luggage to the check-in desk. The escort service is available for a fee in the public and transit areas of the airport. Both services must be booked in advance.
