With two sources at the start and two rivers at the end, the Werra Valley Cycle Route follows the river from its headwaters to the point at which it joins the Fulda in Hann. It is in Münden that the Fulda and Werra Rivers converge to form the River Weser.

The Werra Valley Cycle Route begins at the river's headwaters in Neuhaus am Rennweg, before inviting cyclists on a leisurely bike ride down into the valley. Meiningen is believed to be where the traditional Thuringian dumpling was invented and the salt works in the typical Art Nouveau style and the Celtic spa await in Bad Salzungen. In Merkers, cyclists can put their bike to one side and set off on an exciting underground tour in the visitor mine. And there's even the option of mountain bike tours below ground level. Heading towards Eisenach, part of the route can be covered in a canoe. At the gateway to Thuringia, a rugged valley awaits, followed by charming half-timbered buildings in the many little Medieval towns in Hesse.
