Alb Valleys Cycle Route – to prehistory and beyond

The Swabian Alb is not only known for its amazing scenery. It also offers a fascinating insight into a time when mammoths roamed the valleys and men were cave dwellers.

The Alb Valleys Cycle Route, which has been awarded a four-star quality rating by the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC), passes through the most beautiful scenery in the Swabian Alb Geopark. Juniper shrubs, prehistoric rock formations and mysterious caves are typical features along the way. You'll discover fascinating finds from the Stone Age at Vogelherd Archaeology Park and incredible rock formations in the Eselsburg valley. The route continues through the nature conservation area near Herbrechtingen to the Charlottenhöhle discovery caves in Giengen-Hürben. There are also plenty of opportunities to relax in pretty villages and spa resorts, such as Bad Überkingen and Bad Ditzenbach. Why not pay a visit to one of the many inns or thermal baths and recharge your batteries?

Terrain: Circular tour on predominantly well-maintained tarmac cycle paths and farm tracks, hilly in places with occasional steep climbs.

Scenery: The route runs through river valleys and dry valleys with juniper heath, rock formations and caves; also across the peaks of the Swabian Alb.
