The private, family-run resort of Bad Driburg draws on modern medicine and the long-known healing properties of mud and natural springs. The idyllic little town attracts guests from around the whole world.
There are no fewer than seven clinics and one acute care hospital in Germany's only private spa resort, which has been run by the Graf von Oeynhausen-Sierstorpff family for seven generations. Guests have been coming to this popular health and spa retreat to unwind and recuperate for more than 225 years now, and with visitor numbers exceeding 70,000 per year, the resort has clearly hit on a winning formula. This includes an extensive range of wellness remedies, various options for getting active – and of course a wide-ranging programme of medical treatments. Bad Driburg's natural treasures – sulphurous mud and carbonated mineral springs – are renowned for their therapeutic effects. The locally extracted mud is rich in minerals, most notably beneficial sulphur compounds, acids and hormones, which help alleviate joint and spinal disorders and also rheumatic complaints. Spa guests have access to three therapeutic springs: the Caspar Heinrich spring (earthy mineral water), the Marcus spring (sulphurous bitter water) and the Rabe spring (sulphurous mineral water). In addition, the state-approved thermal spring supplying the Driburg thermal baths has a therapeutic and relaxing effect for those suffering from circulatory disorders, rheumatic complaints, cardiovascular problems and diseases of the spine, muscles and joints, after surgical procedures and in cases of vegetative exhaustion.
