This exciting route spanning some 100 kilometres takes in the former royal seats of Saarbrücken, Blieskastel, Zweibrücken and Ottweiler, paying testimony to the Baroque era. Architects and artists truly worked miracles here back in the 18th century.

It is quite surprising just how many fascinating treasures are waiting to be discovered along the Saar-Palatinate Baroque Route in the region close to the border between Germany and France. The exciting route centres around four former royal seats: Saarbrücken, the former Baroque residence of Blieskastel, ducal Zweibrücken and Ottweiler, a small Baroque town. The Baroque era in Europe is known for giving rise to magnificent stately homes, but incredible works of art were also created in the form of the gardens.

Many of the rulers drew on French inspiration in the gardens, creating their own mini versions of Versailles, which can still be admired to this day. Whether guided by historical figures such as countesses, maids and the Baroque architect Stengel, or enjoyed independently, the Saar-Palatinate Baroque Route takes visitors on a journey through the wonders of Baroque architecture and gardens, jewels, secluded places and culinary delights that simply cannot be forgotten.
