This wonderful pilgrimage route runs for nearly 300km through Brandenburg following in the footsteps of German poet Theodor Fontane. It takes you from the former Cistercian abbey in Chorin near Eberswalde to the Church of Our Lady in Dresden. The route is an opportunity for inner reflection but also for enjoying life's pleasures!
Look within yourself and look around you – this is a chance to do both. The route, most of which is suitable for disabled visitors, crosses the Altmark region west of the Elbe, the part of the March of Brandenburg with the longest history and home to many monuments of Romanesque and Gothic architecture and religious architecture rarely seen in Germany. The unique countryside of the UNESCO Spree Forest biosphere reserve is probably the most scenic part of the pilgrimage route. It is a wonderful place to think and dream while your feet take a rest from walking. For those who want to free their heads, find inner strength or give their life a new direction, there is no better way to travel than on foot. You can set out when you feel like it, take a break if you want, continue how and where you like, exert yourself as much or as little as you choose and you are more or less free from everything. And with every carefree step, you find inner peace, feel away from it all and enjoy all the freedom that you could possibly wish for. Neither the length of the trail nor the time is critical. It is all about embarking on a journey.
