The Moselsteig Trail - your way to experience more

The Moselsteig Trail is 365 kilometres long, so you could walk one kilometre along it every day for a year. The hiking trail consists of 24 stages and follows the Moselle river from the Franco-German-Luxembourg tripoint to the Deutsches Eck headland in Koblenz, where the Moselle meets the Rhine.

The fantastic river landscape with its vineyards and impressive castles is extraordinary, as the Moselle is carved deep into the valley. Even the Romans loved the Moselle, especially as it is the perfect place to grow wine. The combination of slate soil and steep slopes results in world-class wines. The typical Moselle wine is Riesling.

Hikers on the Moselsteig Trail can walk beside the vines or explore the hinterlands of vast forests and thrilling side valleys with little streams. The castles and the towns and villages in the valley ooze medieval charm. The former Roman city of Trier with the Porta Nigra city gate and the Imperial Baths is particularly fascinating. The Moselsteig Trail is very clearly signposted, allowing hikers to focus on the natural setting on a route boasting classical beauty.

TIP: Eltz Castle

Manuel Andrack, editor, presenter, author and hiking blogger:
"The famous Eltz Castle lies directly on the Moselsteig Trail. I truly believe Eltz Castle is the most beautiful castle in Germany. It suddenly comes into view as you turn the corner around a rock face. This is the epitome of the cinematic beauty of hiking."
