Each year, the Cultures Workshop presents the Carnival of Cultures: a three-day festival – open to all – in the heart of Berlin.The event, which celebrates the city'sdiversity, has been attracting crowds of over half a million people annually since 1995. From 6 to 8 June 2014, locals and visitors alike will get to experience the capital at its very best: cosmopolitan and international, dynamic and full of life, diverse and colourful. Music and dance groups, amateurs and pros, children and adults will join together for a procession through Kreuzberg.

Another highlight and another great place to discover the diversity of cultures is the street festival held around Blücherplatz square.

The theme for this year's Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival, on from 13 to 29 June 2014, is 'Mediterranean Sea – between dream and reality'. The festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary with more than 60 concerts, operas, open-air performances and the much-loved Cycling Concert. All this takes place amid the mediterranean-like setting of Potsdam's palaces and parks, which enjoy UNESCO World Heritage status. From Sardinian choral folksong to Andalusian flamenco, from the songs of the Sephardi Jews to Italian opera – there is something for music lovers of every kind. As well as various guided tours and open rehearsals, you can enjoy the premiere of 'The Golden Apple', a baroque opera for all the senses.

The Thuringian Palace Theatre Festival is the most popular open-air festival in the area where Thuringia meets Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. It is organised by Nordhausen Theatre and the Loh Orchestra on behalf of the town of Sondershausen and enthrals people of all ages.

The Palace Theatre Festival gives aspiring young singers the chance to work together under professional guidance, getting their first taste of appearing at a festival and gaining invaluable experience in the process. The cast will be performing My Fair Lady this year, from 27 June to 19 July. Be there and see the stars of tomorrow!

On 13 and 14 May 2014 Europa-Park and the German Association for the Promotion of Science and Technology are inviting young children and their families to a very special event – the tenth anniversary of the Science Days for Kids. For two days, the Europa-Park arena will be transformed into a fantastic forum of ideas and experimentation for children aged between four and nine. "In the not too distant future, our children will play a major role in the development of our country," says Roland Mack, owner of Europa-Park. "It is therefore important to encourage them from a young age and get them interested in science."

Calling all walkers and nature lovers! If you are interested in learning more about biodiversity in Germany while also enjoying natural scenery, be sure to take part in the International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 May 2014. The activities associated with the campaign will in fact run from 1 May to 30 June 2014. During this time, you will be able to join guided walks that are all about biological diversity. The idea of these organised group walks is to make people in Germany more aware of biodiversity issues.

The Fête de la Musique is a unique event that takes place every year on 21 June, the start of summer, in countries all over the world. First held in 1982, this festival of music has now become a global phenomenon. Concerts and musical entertainment are offered in 520 towns and cities worldwide, 297 of which are in Europe. In Germany alone, 42 towns and cities take part. Bands, orchestras, choirs and soloists perform music of every genre. You don't even have to pay, because all of the musicians perform for nothing!

Berlin is one of the places in Germany that hosts the Fête de la Musique – and is doing so this year for the 20th time.
