The seventh Klassikwelt Bodensee expo for classic cars runs from 23 to 25 May 2014 at the exhibition grounds in Friedrichshafen by Lake Constance. Around 800 participants, including exhibitors and clubs, will be presenting an exquisite range of historical vehicles and classic cars together with related products and services. From the air show to the classic boats, from the vintage racing car circuit to the dealer and restoration centre. The many special displays at Klassikwelt Bodensee take visitors on a journey through days gone by – on land... on water... and up in the air! A cross between a trade fair and consumer event it shows the history of motorised transport in all its facets.

The Whitsun Festival (Pfingstfestspiele) is held at the Baden-Baden Festival Theatre, one of Europe's leading venues for classical music. This series of concerts, operas and other works, on this year from 6 to 14 June, is a highlight of the festival season, with performances by internationally acclaimed orchestras and soloists. The main attraction of this year's programme is a new production of Gounod's opera Faust starring Erwin Schrott.

Whether you're coming for the Whitsun Festival or at any other time of year, the historical spa town of Baden-Baden is great for a relaxing stay – thanks to its thermal baths, its beautiful old quarter and its many restaurants serving international and regional cuisine.

The annual Rock im Park festival in southern Germany has been running in tandem with the Rock am Ring in the north of the country since 1993. Rock am Ring is staged at the Nürburgring in Rhineland-Palatinate, while Rock im Park is held at the Zeppelinfeld in Nuremberg, BavariaThe two festivals are taking place simultaneously from 6 to 9 June 2014. Rock am Ring normally sells out very quickly, whereas Rock im Park is more likely to have tickets available for spontaneous visitors. The event in the north is traditionally popular with younger people looking to party and perhaps even wallow in the mud! Rock im Park, meanwhile, attracts people who are there first and foremost for the music, lending the festival a genuine rock concert atmosphere.

Each year, the Cultures Workshop presents the Carnival of Cultures: a three-day festival – open to all – in the heart of Berlin.The event, which celebrates the city'sdiversity, has been attracting crowds of over half a million people annually since 1995. From 6 to 8 June 2014, locals and visitors alike will get to experience the capital at its very best: cosmopolitan and international, dynamic and full of life, diverse and colourful. Music and dance groups, amateurs and pros, children and adults will join together for a procession through Kreuzberg.

Another highlight and another great place to discover the diversity of cultures is the street festival held around Blücherplatz square.

With the new Moselsteig long-distance trail, walkers now have the chance to follow the entire course of the Moselle in Germany, discovering the river's picturesque scenery and the highlights of the Moselle wine region. The walking route spans 365 kilometres in total and is split into 22 sections.

The trail starts in the German-French border town of Perl on the Upper Moselle, offering fabulous views out to France and Luxembourg. From here, the footpath continues on through Trier, through pretty little villages and vineyards and on to Koblenzwhere the Moselle joins the Rhine.

The theme for this year's Potsdam Sanssouci Music Festival, on from 13 to 29 June 2014, is 'Mediterranean Sea – between dream and reality'. The festival is celebrating its 60th anniversary with more than 60 concerts, operas, open-air performances and the much-loved Cycling Concert. All this takes place amid the mediterranean-like setting of Potsdam's palaces and parks, which enjoy UNESCO World Heritage status. From Sardinian choral folksong to Andalusian flamenco, from the songs of the Sephardi Jews to Italian opera – there is something for music lovers of every kind. As well as various guided tours and open rehearsals, you can enjoy the premiere of 'The Golden Apple', a baroque opera for all the senses.
