Germanic National Museum Nuremberg

The Germanic National Museum in Nuremberg presents priceless artefacts that bear witness to the cultural past of the German-speaking world.

The Germanic National Museum doesn't fail to impress with its vibrant display of priceless artefacts that bear witness to the artistic and cultural past of the German-speaking world. It takes visitors on a fascinating journey of discovery starting from prehistory and early history and ending in the modern day. The museum is centred around a Carthusian monastery, complete with cloisters, church and monastic dwellings, dating back to the Late Middle Ages. Parts of Neo-Gothic buildings, the glass Museum Forum and the "Way of Human Rights" all add to the museum's modern charm.

The collections of art and culture feature an impressive selection of mysterious objects from the Bronze Age, Medieval book bindings and sculptures and masterpieces by everyone from Dürer to Rembrandt and Carl Spitzweg to Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. There is no more diverse look back at the cultural history of the German-speaking world anywhere. And the architecture of the building itself makes any visit to Germany's largest museum of cultural history an even more fascinating experience. Opening times: Tuesday to Sunday: 10 am–6 pm, Wednesday: 10 am–9 pm
