Information on Coach Travel
There are some 4,000 coach companies in Germany, most of which provide local and commuter services, hire coaches for excursions and occasionally act as sub-contractors to tour operators. Approximately 1,000 coach operators regularly organise package tours throughout most of Europe and some operators also organise tours to non-European destinations. Coaches in Germany are built to the highest standard in terms of technology, comfort and safety. Coach holidays are comfortable, climate and environment-friendly.
German coach companies operate about 20,000 touring coaches (of which almost 1,200 are classified).
The place of a company’s registration should not be a barrier to trade, as German coach operators are able to operate throughout Europe. Most coach operators are registered at their operating site, which is often not in the immediate vicinity of a gateway. Consequently, some international customers miss the opportunity to make contact with a potential supplier by not extending their search to the surrounding regions. Due to the cost structure of coach travel, it may often be feasible to award contracts for longer tours to operators located further away. Firms located near highly frequented gateways may, however, have accumulated expertise and experience in the incoming business.
Most coach operators are interested in incoming contracts and can handle simple incoming transportation requirements. For more complex requirements involving round trips, international travel, multilingual drivers/driver-guides and ancillary services, we recommend the services of a professional incoming operator. Contact data is available from RDA.
