The mining town of Freiberg, situated between Dresden and Chemnitz in Saxony, is celebrating its 850th anniversary in 2012 with a week of festivities. Until 1 July 2012, locals and visitors can pick and choose from over a hundred different events, including the miners' parade and seniors day. The week ends in some style with a grand festival procession involving more than 1,100 people.
