On the 21st day of our journey around the Top 100 sights of Germany, we visit the Zollverein mine in Essen in the heart of the Ruhr region. Formerly the world's biggest colliery, it has since shut down and now attracts countless visitors as a monument to the era of heavy industry in the 1920s and 1930s.
