General Information
Frankfurt Airport is the busiest in Germany with more than 56 million passengers per year. Over 100 airlines operates from here to destinations all over the world. The airport provides two terminals which are connected via Sky Line and a bus shuttle service. A new runway opened in Oct 2011 and a new pier A Plus for additional six million passengers per year opened in October 2012.

FRA – The intermodal port
FRA is an ideal starting point for trips around Germany and Europe. German Cities can be reached within a short travel time by 180 direct services and due to an seamless linkage of air travel with the German high-speed railway network. Furthermore FRA provides smooth and hassle-free onward connections to European cities like Paris, Amsterdam or Zurich. The long-distance railway station is directly adjacent to Terminal 1. The AIRail Terminal close to this station facilitates intermodal air-rail-travel and check-in for over 40 airlines and allows passengers to use the convenient Rail&Fly product offered by German Rail and sold via the airlines. Frankfurt Airport is just a short ride from the city centre of Frankfurt am Main, which can be reached in around eleven minutes by public transport. Located at the busiest inter-section in Europe, The “Frankfurter Kreuz”, Frankfurt Airport is also easily accessible by road.

Baggage carts
Baggage carts are located near the check-in counters, baggage claim, Terminal forecourts and parking garages. Users will be required to pay a two euro deposit.

Passengers arriving from non-EU countries can enter Germany without paying duty, but only concerning products for personal use or consumption or as gifts. There are limits on the permitted quantities and values (e.g., alcohol concentrations) and goods exceeding regulated quantities need to be declared at the local customs office.

Airport Expansion
In order to ensure FRA’s position as one of the leading hubs worldwide, FRA has started a countdown for more capacity. Examples include:

  • new landing runway opened in October 2011 increases the slot capacity by 50 per cent
  • a new pier A Plus opened in October 2012 for an additional capacity of up to six million passengers per year
  • Terminal 3 (open in 2016/2017) for a passenger increase of up to additional 25 million per year

Group Offers

Airport Tours & Visitors’ Terrace

  • On one of our airport tours visitors go by bus onto the apron, where they can enjoy a close-up view of aircraft landing and taking off and peer behind the scenes. An experienced tour guide gives explanations.
  • Mini Tours (45 minutes) take place from Monday to Friday, every hour from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Saturdays, Sundays public holidays or during school holidays in the state of Hesse, tours start from 11 a.m. Individuals, families and small groups can purchase a ticket without advance booking from the ticket counter in the Airport City Mall, Terminal 1, Level 0.
  • Longer tours are available for groups of more than 25 persons (minimum fee for smaller groups). Advance booking is required.
  • Agents will receive a 10% commission for group bookings

You can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the apron from our Visitors’ Terrace. Opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., from April to November. Tickets for an airport tour include admission to the Visitors’ Terrace on the designated day.

  • Short-term parking is possible at the charter bus lines on the arrivals level in front of Terminal 1 and on the arrivals/departures level in front of Terminal 2.

Barrier-free Travel

Before Traveling
Physically challenged passengers and passengers with reduced mobility who require assistance at the airport are asked to request it in advance:

  • at least 48 hours before departure
  • by contacting their airline or
  • travel agent

This advance notice lets us notify the Passenger Support Service in good time. For security reasons, it is not possible for passengers to directly contact the Passenger Support Service. If you are taking your own wheelchair with you, you must report it in advance to the airline and indicate its measurements (height, width and weight).

Regardless of which airline you use, you can book a porter or escort at Frankfurt Airport. The porter service helps you get luggage to the check-in desk. The escort service is available for a fee in the public and transit areas of the airport. Both services must be booked in advance.
