The River Isar starts off in the neighbouring country of Austria but makes its way to Germany, where it delights cyclists with views of the mountains, riverside meadows and idyllic little villages with ornate farmhouses.

The River Isar rises in Tyrol and then flows through the Karwendel Alpine Park in Bavaria, which boasts craggy cliffs, alpine meadows and farmhouses. The towns and villages here ooze Upper Bavarian charm with their beer gardens and beautifully painted house fronts. A quick stop off in Freising, the oldest town along the Isar, comes highly recommended. And there are plenty of cultural gems on the route too, such as the wooden relief in St. John's Church in Fischbach and Medieval Old Towns. Munich is always well worth a visit and the city is followed by the wonderfully mysterious riverside meadows in the area surrounding the Isar estuary. This is a paradise on another level!
