German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC)

The Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club, ADFC, the German Cyclists’ Federation, is a nationwide, non-profit organization, with 137 000 members, who share a common goal: to make traffic friendlier for cyclists and pedestrian

The ADFC is a nationwide, not-for-profit organisation with 121,000 members whose shared aim is to make the roads safer for cyclists and pedestrians. Besides encouraging environmentally-friendly and therefore sustainable forms of transport, the ADFC provides advice on all aspects of cycling. This includes advice on buying a bike, technology and cycling accessories and on tourism-related and political issues.

The ADFC was founded in Bremen in 1979 and its head office is still there today. It has 16 regional associations, 400 district associations, plus offices and advice centres in some 80 towns and cities. The ADFC also lobbies on behalf of cyclists at all political levels, from local authorities to the EU and the Council of Europe, and is also a member of the European Cyclists' Federation (ECF). It communicates its innovative approaches and successful strategies for cycling in publications and in the media and at conferences and trade fairs.
