Medieval Crime Museum, Rothenburg

The Medieval Crime Museum in Rothenburg comprises two buildings containing several hundred exhibits from all over the German-speaking world.

These artefacts illustrate how the judicial system developed from the High Middle Ages through to the 19th century. Displays shed light on medieval trials, instruments of torture and the tools used to inflict pain or to execute. The civil policy orders reveal how even the most private spheres of people's lives were controlled by regulations on clothing, marriage and baptism.

Opening times:

April-October: 10am - 6pm

November-March: 1pm - 4pm

Weekends in Advent: 11am - 4pm

24th and 31st of December: 10am - 1pm
