Senckenberg Museum Frankfurt am Main

The Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt is a firm favourite as one of the oldest and largest natural history museums in Germany, showcasing some 40 million objects gathered during 200 years of research.

You won't find anything like some of the exhibits on display in the 6,000-square-metre exhibition space anywhere else in the world. This is the place to come to uncover the sheer diversity of the animals and plants in the world today. Discover just how vast space is and journey back to long-ago eras. Find out about the big bang and the birth of our planet. Prehistoric dinosaurs, enormous whales and elephants, countless beetles, a colourful array of birds, and botanical and geological exhibits are just waiting to be discovered. The museum also reveals the latest nature research being conducted by its scientists working all around the world and is open about its own commitment to environmental protection and nature conservation.

Alongside the permanent exhibitions called "Bottled Anatomy" and "Ocean Habitats", covering mammals and the evolution of man, the "Dinosaur Excavation" research zone is an exciting attraction that makes research clear for all to see and understand. This themed area of the museum shows that scientific knowledge is constantly developing with each new discovery. Special exhibitions are hosted regularly and events are arranged, such as the dinosaur excavation for kids. Opening times: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 9 am–5 pm, Wednesday: 9 am–8 pm, Saturday, Sunday: 9 am–6 pm
