Thomana 800th anniversary 2012 Leipzig hosts a year full of highlights

In 2012 the three divisions of the Thomana, Leipzig's oldest cultural institution - St. Thomas Church, St. Thomas Boys Choir and St. Thomas School - are celebrating their 800th anniversary. Leipzig will be marking this anniversary with an exciting programme of events and inviting visitors from all over the world to join the celebrations.

Every five years the art world heads to Kassel for documenta, the world's most important exhibition of contemporary art. dOCUMENTA (13) - a must for art lovers and a wonderful success story for Kassel – will be on show from 9 June to 16 September 2012.

300th anniversary of the birth of Frederick the Great (1712 – 1786)

Frederick the Great turned Prussia into a major power; he also worshipped Voltaire and adored music. The exhibition 'Friederisiko' at the New Palace in Potsdam (28 April to 28 October 2012) will be marking the tercentenary of Frederick's birth and offering insights into the life of this accomplished monarch. His 300th anniversary will also be celebrated in other locations.
