Wine regions and festivals in Germany
Germany is a land of wine. It has a total of 13 winegrowing regions offering a range of different grape varieties from which excellent vintages are made. The regions are as diverse as the wines they produce, and each boasts a mild climate and glorious countryside. With lush green vineyards and blue rivers, each one is also a pleasure for all the senses. Although traditionally known for producing white wine, German vintners are now increasingly turning their hands to reds. The regional wine festivals are popular with locals and visitors alike.

Frederick the Great, a flamboyant ruler
2012 marks the 300th anniversary of Frederick the Great's birth. The 'Friederisiko' exhibition in Potsdam offers insights into the life of the Prussian king. Large parts of this town famous for its palaces and lakes come under UNESCO World Heritage protection and the surrounding area is also ideal for a variety of watersports.
800 years of Thomana in Leipzig
St. Thomas choir, the Church of St. Thomas and St. Thomas School are among the most important cultural institutions in Leipzig. The boys' choir has been singing at church services and on other occasions for 800 years. This special anniversary is being marked by numerous events, especially during the three main festival weeks, and gives visitors an opportunity to discover the choir's illustrious past.
