The Vogtland Panorama Weg is a 225 kilometre circular route through the federal states of Thuringia and Saxony which wends its way through the Ore Mountains/Vogtland Nature Park.

It starts and ends at the largest brick-built bridge in the world – the Göltzsch Viaduct near Greiz. A few facts and figures about our path: we enjoy a whopping 82 panoramic views and see 280 changes of scenery on our walk. In other words, we delight in expansive vistas and make our way through an array of natural surroundings. We see orchid-filled meadows, a dragon's lair, a windmill, many castles and palaces and we cross mighty ravines. The Vogtland Panorama Weg traverses Klingenthal, a town known for its winter sports and music. As we are in a town famous for its accordions, a trip to the Accordion Museum is a must. We also cross through Wernesgrün, which boasts a brewery of the same name where the Wernesgrüner Pils Legende lager is brewed.

TIP: Bad Elster

Manuel Andrack, editor, presenter, author and hiking blogger:

"The spa town of Bad Elster on the Czech border is a real gem. The extravagant Royal Spa House, for example, is very impressive. I recommend indulging in a pampering day at the Elsterado spa and swimming baths."
