Filming takes place every day on the 350,000m² site with its three street scenes, several mocked-up houses, twelve studios, costume and props store and countless film sets from well-known TV and cinema productions. There is so much to see: the abundance of exciting films shot on set here includes „Jim Knopf und Lukas der Lokomotivführer“ Das Boot, and Vicky the Viking. Many visitors will have fond memories of The NeverEnding Story, and would have at some point as children dreamt of flying through the air on Falkor the luckdragon, just like Bastian. There's always something worth seeing in the 4D cinema, though prepare to be amazed. Audiences experience the on-screen images not only in 3D, but also through a variety of different effects that draw them right into the film. Lots of the attractions on the Filmstadt tour are outdoors, so for the full Filmstadt experience, please wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing for the weather.

Bavaria Filmstadt, Munich: a world of cinematic discovery

Bavaria Filmstadt has long been one of Munich's top attractions. At Bullyversum you can immerse yourself in the world of comedian and director Michael 'Bully' Herbig. The huge hall contains sets and props from his films. And if you fancy trying your hand at acting, there's even the chance to re-enact scenes on the set of a famous German sci-fi parody. The latest addition is a replica weather studio, where you can showcase your talents as a weather forecaster. Tours of the studio complex last around 90 minutes. Featuring authentic film sets, they reveal fascinating industry insights, including how a movie becomes a blockbuster. Three main attractions show visitors how the media professionals work and the amazing tricks that are used to transform a film concept into a cinematic success.

The Pinakothek der Moderne not only brings together four museums under one roof – Sammlung Moderne Kunst, Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München, Technische Universität Architecture Museum and Neue Sammlung – it's also part of an even larger group of museums: the Munich Art Quarter, which in addition to the Pinakothek der Moderne includes the Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek, Museum Brandhorst, Antikensammlungen, Glyptothek and Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus.

All modern art movements are represented in the Sammlung Moderne Kunst, for instance Expressionism, Fauvism, Cubism, New Objectivity, Bauhaus, Surrealism, Pop Art and Minimal Art. Works by Henri Matisse, Oskar Kokoschka, Max Beckmann, Pablo Picasso, Otto Dix, Lyonel Feininger, Joan Miró, René Magritte, Salvador Dalí and others are on display, as are examples by Brücke and Blue Rider artists. The Staatliche Graphische Sammlung has approx. 400,000 items covering every development in the history of drawing and prints, whilst the collection at the Technische Universität Architecture Museum, the faculty's collective memory, runs to around 500,000 drawings and plans by almost 700 architects, over 100,000 photographers, as well as mock-ups and archives – from Balthasar Neumann to Le Corbusier, and from Leo von Klenze to Peter Zumthor. Founded around a century ago, the Neue Sammlung is the world's oldest design museum. The approx. 80,000 objects in the industrial design, applied art and graphic design departments together make up the biggest design collection in the world.
