Multimar Wattforum Centre Tönning

The Multimar Wattforum Centre in Tönning is the main visitor centre for the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, where information about life in the Wadden Sea is presented in a way that is sure to excite visitors.

Whether visitors are interested in dogfish, lobsters, starfish, lugworms or sea urchins, they'll have the chance to see them up close in the many aquariums and tanks housing more than 280 species at the Multimar Wattforum Centre. The display also presents the unparalleled diversity at the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea National Park, which covers the mudflats and the deep North Sea. And there are answers to a whole host of questions that will interest all visitors, not just the experts: How did the sperm whale end up at the National Park Visitor Centre? Why are sturgeon species at risk of extinction? And how do shrimps end up between bread? The exhibition doesn't fail to impress visitors with its interactive elements, experiments and short videos on natural phenomena and conservation.

The Multimar Wattforum Centre is home to a total of 36 aquariums that are filled with fish, crabs and mussels. Visitors can watch as a diver feeds the creatures in the large aquarium twice a week. The whale exhibition is another star attraction, featuring an 18-metre-long sperm whale that ended up beached on the Wadden Sea mudflats. A minke whale skeleton is a new addition that shows the difference between toothed and baleen whales. Opening times: Every day in April to October: 9 am–6 pm, November to March: 10 am–5 pm
