Sail from the UK to Europe with DFDS Seaways. If you want easy access to the splendours of Germany we have four routes for you to travel on in style and comfort.
Our North Sea overnight sailings from Newcastle and Harwich are popular with those living in Northern England and Scotland for the Netherlands and also the South East for our Denmark crossing. Or you may prefer to travel one of our Dover to France routes if you live further south. You can take your own car on board and enjoy a leisurely trip, which includes cabins specially designed for your needs (North Sea routes only). Our ships have good access so there is no difficulty in getting around to all the excellent facilities.
The beauty of taking your own car on holiday is that you can take everything you need. You can drive it straight on board, enjoy the overnight sailing, and then set off for Germany refreshed in the morning. There are disabled cabins on both North Sea routes from Newcastle to Amsterdam and Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark. Our lifts are suitable for standard-sized wheelchairs and the cabins have disabled toilet facilities. Assistance is always available from the on board reception. If you let us know 48 hours in advance you can take advantage of our priority boarding vehicles – and on board assistance with a wheelchair - on our Dover routes.
The daily departures from Newcastle and the 2-4 times a week from Harwich will get you well on the way to Germany. This rich and varied country is only 88 miles from Amsterdam and 78 miles from Esbjerg. The overnight crossings from your nearest port avoids struggling along congested British roads and means you’re fresh to start on open continental roads. Next stop, Germany!
Dover is your gateway to Europe and Germany. We have up to 44 departures every day, each way 12 daily departures to Dunkirk (two-hour crossing) and 10 to Calais (90 minutes) – and the same returning. Both will get you on the road, with many passengers preferring to embark at Dunkirk as it’s nearer to Germany. Both routes are swift and efficient for an ideal start to your journey.
You’ll have no problem keeping yourself occupied on board our overnight crossings on the Newcastle-Amsterdam and Harwich-Esbjerg routes. There’s so much to do from indulging in a spot of shopping to the impressive choice of eating experiences in our restaurants and cafes. Later on there’s live entertainment for all ages, a cinema and casino. Maybe just unwind in one of the bars. And don’t forget breakfast to set you on your way.
You may not have long on board a Channel crossing so you’ve a lot to pack in. Shopping is likely to be a priority. You won’t be disappointed. The kids play area will keep the nippers entertained. With attractive cafes, restaurant and bars, you can have a meal, a quiet coffee or something stronger. Good places to feed up before you head off.
If you or someone you’re booking for has limited mobility or a condition that makes travel difficult, some aspects of our services might pose problems. These can often be overcome and we will offer help wherever we can. It is important to note that before your booking becomes final, please let us know your requirements as we can’t make special arrangements on the day of travel. Disabled cabins can only be booked over the phone to provide the best possible service.
