Thuringian Forest Nature Park Route – an alluring experience
The Nature Park Route connects interesting towns and cities, excellent viewpoints and awe-inspiring natural landscapes across around 450 kilometres, which can be travelled on two wheels or more.
Idyllic stretches through an old cultural landscape at the green heart of Germany are just crying out to be explored. Narrow valleys, vast plateaus and mysterious woodland await along with historical towns and traditional villages. It's fascinating to see just how quickly the climate and countryside can change – sun-soaked foothills flooded with light give way to shady forests and rugged peaks along the Rennsteig trail. The sights around every corner are enough to take anyone's breath away and the views never fail to impress. Then there's the monumental Wartburg Castle and the romantic Altenstein Palace.
The legendary Dragon Gorge and the magical Fairy Grottoes. The vibe is almost Mediterranean in Eisenach, whilst the fresh scent of the mountain pastures abounds on the Rennsteig trail and the River Werra is accompanied by a lively bubbling sound. The picturesque collection of castles and the crystal-clear reservoirs are sights not to be forgotten in a hurry. Nor are the ancient rock formations or the magical underground world that awaits.
